Amazon kicked off AWS re : Invent , its annual customer conference , in Las Vegas tonight with a few new serverless offerings designed to make it easier to manage Aurora , ElastiCache and Redshift serverless services .
Matt Wood , AWS VP , say that Aurora Serverless is great for take up and running very quickly with a cloud database , but over time , once you get to very , very in high spirits scale , and you ’re deal with tens of millions of customers , or million of different records , it becomes challenge for customers to apportion with those kinds of numbers , forcing them to break the database into multiple pieces . “ What you have to do as a customer to be able to kind of handle that scale leaf , is you ’ve traditionally had to separate the data up into smaller and smaller segment , and then manage those segments independently . It ’s called sharding . And it ’s kind of a pain in the butt , ” Wood evidence TechCrunch .
“ We ’re announcing a limitless database , which handles all of that sharding for you under the cap completely automatically . So as a customer as your pauperization change , the database service itself , Aurora serverless , will be able to make those adjustments and superintend those sherd mechanically , ” he said . That enable client to deal with a single database , and it should off a huge direction concern that existed prior to build this feature .
While it was at it , the companionship also declare ElastiCache Serverless , which is a serverless caching avail that sits between your software servers and your database and improves response times and reduces database costs , he said .
“ And what we ’re add together here is we ’re making it all serverless in a highly available mode for commission critical applications that run across handiness zone . And so you may fructify up extremely usable caches with microsecond response times , which are ready to scale for fairly much any volume of datum you may throw at it in under a minute , ” Wood said .
ultimately , the company announced Redshift Serverless now uses AI to automatically optimise and scale Amazon Redshift data storage warehouse based on enquiry patterns and information volumes , greatly reducing the amount of work IT needs to do behind the scenes .
Because each of these options is serverless , it means that Amazon manage all of the hardware in the background , and deliver just the ripe amount of resource you need , scale up when needed without IT having to manage with all of the back - end management work .
