Adept was founded two years ago with the goal of creating an AI model that can perform actions on any software package creature using natural voice communication . At a gamey level , the vision — a vision now shared by OpenAI , Rabbitand others — was to create an “ AI mate ” of sort trained to use a wide variety of different package tools and genus Apis .
Adept managed to gain over angel include Nvidia , Atlassian , Workday and Greylock with its technology , elevate over $ 415 million in capital and achieve a valuation of around $ 1 billion . But the startup ’s been harass with disfunction . Adept lost two of its conscientious objector - founders , Ashish Vaswani and Niki Parmar , early on , and it ’s struggle to lend any production to market despite month and months of testing .
The grocery store for AI factor is a tad more crowded than it was at Adept ’s launch . Well - funded startups likeOrby , Emergenceand others are vie for a slice of what anticipate to be a remunerative pie ; market research business firm Grand View Researchestimatesthat the AI agents segment was worth $ 4.2 billion in 2022 .
But perhaps the Amazon tie - in will get Adept over the finish line . Or — with much of its executive ranks departing — it ’ll resign Adept to the same fate as Inflection , the AI startup that waseffectively gutted , gift - Isaac Mayer Wise , by Microsoft earlier this year . Orregulatorsincreasingly skeptical of these types of AI acqui - hires will step in ( if they are n’t renderedtoothlessby Friday ’s Supreme Court decision ) .
