Apple has added another AI startup to its acquisition list with Canada - based DarwinAI , which specializes in vision - based tech to note components during manufacturing to better efficiency , Bloombergreported .
While Apple and DarwinAI have n’t announced this raft , several member of the inauguration ’s team joined Apple ’s automobile learning teams in January , as per theirLinkedInprofiles .
DarwinAI had elevate over $ 15 million in financial backing across various rounds from investors , including BDC Capital ’s Deep Tech Venture Fund , Honeywell Ventures , Obvious Ventures and Inovia Capital . BDC Capitalconfirms on its website that it has received an outlet from DarwinAI , whereasObvious Ventureshas updated its portfolio to reflect that the startup has been acquired .
BDC Capital and Obvious Ventures did n’t comment on the story at the time of writing . We have reached out to Apple for a comment , and we will update the story if we get a reception .
As Bloomberg noted in its report , apart from helping with fabrication efficiency , DarwinAI uses technique to make AI modelssmaller and quicker . This could be useful for on - equipment generative AI features Apple hop-skip to premise in iOS 18 this twelvemonth .
Apple has jug in releasing GenAI - powered feature as compare to competitors like OpenAI , Google , Meta and Microsoft . In February , Tim Cook said the companyplans to introduce such features “ by and by this year . ”
