Arcade , an AI agent base startup founded by former Okta White House Alex Salazar and former Redis engineer Sam Partee , has raised $ 12 million from Laude Ventures .
Laude is the new investment trust launch in 2024 byPerplexity co - founderAndy Konwinski , the UC Berkeley computer scientist who alsoco - founded Databricks .
This is n’t the only check Laude has rationalise . But it is the first publicly announce one , Laude co - founding father and general partner Pete Sonsini told TechCrunch . Sonsini is well - known for his years at NEA , where he led other investment in Databricks , Anyscale , and Perplexity .
As for Salazar , he ’s a repetition founder . He landed at Okta afterselling his authentication API startup , Stormpath , to the companyin 2017 . He pass the next few years at Okta as a VP building products . Partee , for his part , had been construct LLM - establish diligence and lend to some key open source projects like LangChain and LlamaIndex , according to Arcade .
When Salazar saw the debut of ChatGPT 3.5 , he saw the hereafter , and his next startup melodic theme : an AI agent ship’s company . Arcadewas establish in February 2024 .
Then he and Partee quickly discovered thatAI agents do n’t really bring .

Salazar and Partee retain “ beating our principal against the rampart ” sample to get their agent just to connect to other servicing and get the information needed to do their job .
One reason , they discovered , is because many agents use LLMs check on public data , but not private data . So they can , for instance , spill about product features but ca n’t sustain that an order was delivered .
Not an agent, but a tool used by them
The pair decided Arcade would do for AI agents what Okta once - upon - a - clock time did for SaaS cloud services . The founders built a tool - call program for their site reliability agent .
“ People were very surprised when we would show them the demo of that agent . They were n’t that interested in the factor itself , ” Salazar said . They require to recognise how they got the factor to in reality work out .
“ in the end , we just looked at each other and said … Why do n’t we just , like , break off with the agent and trade the underlying cock - calling political platform ? ” Salazar said .
Enter Arcade , which helps each agent get accession with the same privileges to the same apps and data as the prole it wait on , or the job part it plays . Arcade is uncommitted via usage - base pricing or subscription .
colonnade integrates with OAuth , so it can deal the authentication of thousands of SaaS services and web site . It also play an intermediary , providing unafraid token direction that prevent the LLMs themselves from access those credentials , Salazar enounce .
When Sonsini , who had stake Salazar with Stormpath , try that the beginner was doing a new startup , he reached out and wanted in .
“ We ’re very , very focused on super proficient type founder , and so we ’re very plugged in with the research community . We have throttle partners that are investigator , ” Sonsini said .
Whereas many AI inauguration founders are focused on the “ lustrous object ” around LLMs , like agents , “ my background is the lower levels , the infrastructure where billion - dollar mark business can be built , ” Sonsini said . And Arcade “ fall right in that outer space . ”
