AT&T has begun give notice U.S. land authorities and regulators of a security incident after confirm thatmillions of client records carry onlinelast month were authentic .
Ina legally required filingwith Maine ’s attorney general ’s office , the U.S. telco colossus pronounce it charge out letters notifying more than 51 million people that their personal entropy was compromise in the data severance , admit around 90,000 individuals in Maine . AT&T alsonotified California ’s attorney generalof the breach .
AT&T — the largest telephone company in the United States — enunciate that the breached data point included customer ’ full name , email savoir-faire , mailing address , date of nascency , phone act and Social Security telephone number .
leak customer information date back to mid-2019 and earlier . grant to AT&T the records contain valid data on more than 7.9 million current AT&T customers .

AT&T reset those news report passcodes after TechCrunch alert AT&T on March 26 to the risk posed to customer . TechCrunch held its story until AT&T could fill in the procedure of resetting touched customer passcodes .

AT&T finally acknowledged that the leaked data belongs to its customers , including about 65 million former customer .
Companies have data breaches that affect large numbers of people are ask to disclose the incident with U.S. lawyer world-wide under state data breach notification laws . In its notice filed in Maine and California , AT&T enounce it is offer identity thieving and credit monitoring to affected customers .
AT&T has still not identified the source of the leak .
