Taiwanese lookup engine Baidu has found two new AI model — Ernie 4.5 , the up-to-the-minute version of the company ’s foundational modelfirst free two years ago — and a new abstract thought model , Ernie X1 .

According to Reuters , Baidu claims that Ernie X1 ’s carrying into action is “ on par with DeepSeek R1 at only half the price , ” and it touts Ernie 4.5 ’s “ high EQ , ” allowing the mannikin to understand memes and irony . Both model have multimodal capabilities , grant them to sue video , image , and audio , as well as textual matter .

While Baidu was one of the first Formosan company to launch a contender to OpenAI ’s ChatGPT , it has reportedly struggled to feel far-flung adoption . Meanwhile , the said DeepSeek recentlyunsettled American AI companiesand investor by releasing models that were apparently just as powerful at a much low-spirited cost .
