California is commit to zero - emission vehicle , even if the federal mood shifts .
The land ’s governor , Gavin Newsom , a Democrat , said Monday that if the incoming Trump establishment cuts the $ 7,500EV tax credit , he will propose rebates for eligible resident physician who buy electric vehicles .
“ We ’re not turning back on a clean exile futurity — we ’re go to make it more affordable for people to repulse vehicles that do n’t pollute , ” Newsom said in astatement .
President Joe Biden insert the taxation credit under the bipartisan Inflation Reduction Act , but the incoming Trump governing is powerfully consideringcutting the programas part of broader taxation reform .
Newsom say he would propose a new rendering of California ’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Project , which phase out in 2023 , but funded more than 594,000 vehicles in its lifetime . The propose rebates could come from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund , which is fund by polluters under the state ’s chapiter - and - trade program .
