CoreWeave , the cloud calculate company that leave companies with AI compute resources , has formally opened its first two information center in the U.K. — its first outside its domestic U.S. grocery .
CoreWeaveopened its European headquarters in London last May , shortly after earning a$19 billion valuationoff the back of a $ 1.1 . billion fundraise . At the same time , the company announced plans to open two data shopping mall as part of a £ 1 billion ( $ 1.25 billion ) investiture in the U.K.
Today ’s intelligence coincides with aseparate announcement from the U.K. government , which detail a five - year investment plan to bolster up government - owned AI computing capacity as well as geographic “ AI Growth Zones , ” which includes AI base from the private sphere .
“ This investment funds is a huge vote of assurance in the U.K. ’s digital engineering sector , and is incisively the form we want to see as we grow the economy and utilise AI to drive efficiency,”Rachel Reeves , U.K. Chancellor of the Exchequer , say in a statement .
CoreWeave ’s first U.K. data center quiet go live in Crawley back in October , the company say , and the second hub started operations in December in London Docklands . Both fix useNvidia ’s Hopper GPUs(graphical processing units ) , based on its upgradedH200 serial of chipsdesigned for AI workloads .
From crypto to AI compute
Founded in 2017 , CoreWeave start out with a focal point on crypto mining , but with the surge in demand for AI compute — the processing power and base required to carry out computational task such as running algorithms and machine learning models — the company repurposed its GPU infrastructure for such workloads .
CoreWeave is one of a number of swarm infrastructure startups look to capitalise on the AI hype wave , include domesticated European players such asFrance ’s FlexAI ; DataCrunch , which isbased out of Finland ; and Netherlands - based Nebius , whichemerged from the ashesof Russian net giant star Yandex .

CoreWeave says it now has 28 usable data kernel , and it ’s planning a further 10 Modern data shopping centre in 2025 — three of which will be in Europe , includingthree previously announced locationsin Norway , Sweden , and Spain .
