engineering behemoth Dell notified client on Thursday that it experienced a data point breach involve customer ’ names and physical address .

In an electronic mail seen by TechCrunch and shared byseveralpeopleonsocialmedia , the computer maker wrote that it was investigating “ an incident involve a Dell portal , which contains a database with limited types of client entropy have-to doe with to purchases from Dell . ”

Dell wrote that the info accessed in the breach admit customer name , physical addresses and “ Dell hardware and order information , including table service ticket , item description , date of guild and related warrant information . ” Dell did not say if the incident was because of malicious foreigner or accidental error .

The breached data did not include email computer address , telephone set numbers , financial or payment info , or “ any highly sensitive client data , ” according to the ship’s company .

The company downplayed the impact of the falling out in the subject matter .

“ We think there is not a significant risk to our customers given the type of information call for , ” Dell write in the electronic mail .

When TechCrunch reached out to Dell for comment , asking specific interrogation such as how many customers were impacted , how the breach occurred and why the company consider that a breach of physical addresses does not pose “ a significant risk of infection ” to customers , the caller responded with a boilerplate version of the email it sent to affected customers .

A Dell spokesperson , who declined to provide their name , later added : “ We are not divulge this specific entropy from our ongoing investigation . ” Dell did not furnish a reason .

On April 29 , the internet site Daily Dark Webreportedthat someone on a chop forum was publicize “ client and other selective information of systems purchased from Dell between 2017 and 2024 . ”

The somebody claimed that the dataset included information on 49 million people , and entropy such as full name , full name and address , the system ’s service tatter , customer phone number , and more . This is data that would ordinate with what Dell disclosed was stolen .

Dell ’s spokesperson declined to annotate on the forum stake , and did not dispute the hack ’s claims .
