A federal evaluator on Thursday issued an order blockingElon Musk ’s Department of Government Efficiencyfrom accessing systems at the Social Security Administration ( SSA ) that lay in the personal entropy of millions of Americans .
Inthe Thursday ruling , U.S. District Judge Ellen Hollander in Maryland accused DOGE of being “ essentially engage in a sportfishing expedition ” in search of fraud based on “ little more than suspicion . ” Hollander said DOGE “ never identified or enunciate ” a reason why it require access code to the “ personal and private information of meg of Americans . ”
The access , per Hollander , violates several Union privacy law , and the order warned of cybersecurity peril .
Per the filing , DOGE has 10 staffers at SSA , and seven of those had admittance to personally identifiable information in SSA ’s data systems . TechCrunch has identified several , includingAkash BobbaandScott Coulter .
Hollander say SSA initially granted DOGE access to the systems , which include Social Security Book of Numbers , aesculapian records , drivers ’ permission phone number , tax information , and ream of other personal information .
