Federal safety regulators have discovered nine more incidents that grow questions about the prophylactic of Waymo ’s self - drive vehicles operate in Phoenix and San Francisco .
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ( NHTSA ) Office of Defects Investigation ( ODI)opened an investigationearlier this month into Waymo ’s autonomous vehicle software after receiving 22 reports of robotaxis making unexpected moves that led to crashes and potentially assault traffic prophylactic natural law . The investigating , which has been designated a “ preliminary evaluation , ” is examining the software and its power to avoid collision with stationary objects and how well it discover and react to “ traffic safe control machine ” like cones .
The federal agency say Friday it has addedanother nine incidentssince the investigating was opened . Waymo could not be make for comment ; TechCrunch will update the article if the Alphabet - owned fellowship respond .

The extra nine incidents include account of Waymo robotaxis colliding with gate , utility Pole , and parked vehicles , driving in the awry lane with nearby oncoming traffic and into construction geographical zone .
The ODI say it ’s concerned the robotaxis “ exhibiting such unexpected driving behaviors may increase the risk of clash , property equipment casualty , and trauma . ” The office said that while it ’s not aware of any injuries from these incident , several involved collision with seeable objects that “ a competent driver would be expected to avoid . ” The agency also expressed concern that some of these occurred near pedestrian .
The NHTSA has given Waymo until June 11 to react to a serial publication of questions regarding the investigation .

Earlier this month , the NHTSAopenedan investigating into autonomous vehicles operated by Amazon - back up Zoox . The investigation was triggered after receiving two reports of the company ’s autonomous - fit Toyota Highlanders being rear - ended by motorcycles after the SUVs unexpectedly triggered the brakes .
