The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has unfold an investigation into 2.56 millionTeslavehicles after several clash necessitate the car manufacturer ’s “ Actual Smart Summon ” remote parking feature .
Tesla exhaust Actual Smart Summon , or ASS for short , via software update in September . It permit Tesla owners to use their app to dominate the vehicle drive itself to them , using only the car ’s camera . The previous version , Smart Summon , also relied on ultrasonic sensors , which are not include on newer vehicles .
The NHTSA ’s Office of Defects Investigation ( ODI ) get one complaint alleging that the ASS feature resulted in a crash and has reviewed at least three media reports of similar collapse .
“ All four incidents affect the subject Tesla vehicles operating in [ ASS ] go to detect situation or park vehicle , resulting in a crash , ” read thereport .
The report also states that the situation receive 12 Smart Summon - relate complaints alleging a crash typology similar to the crash experienced by ASS exploiter , all of which pass on drivers with small time to react to avoid a clangour .
