Ford has reached a “ tentative accord on a unexampled toil declaration ” with the United Auto Workers ( UAW ) brotherhood for the automaker ’s U.S. operation .
TheUAW began its strike of the Detroit Three auto maker — Ford , Stellantis and General Motors — in mid - September . If successful , Ford will be the first of the three to finalize the strikes by 45,000 members .
Ford said it will work on restarting the Kentucky Truck Plant , the Michigan Assembly Plant and the Chicago Assembly Plant , calling 20,000 Ford employees back to body of work and “ shipping our full lineup to our client again , ” according to the troupe .
Ford ’s UAW - represented employees still need to sign the agreement , but UAW president Shawn Fain seemed affirmative about what he called a “ historic triumph ” during a Facebook Live event Wednesday evening .
Fain said the UAW had taken the strike to a “ new phase ” this week , hitting the companies with “ maximum effect , ” which spurred Ford to come to the table .
On Monday , the UAW call members to strike at Stellantis ’ Sterling Heights Assembly plant . The following day , they walk out on General Motors ’ Arlington Assembly . Fain say the factories were the car manufacturer ’ bad and most profitable plant .
“ Ford knew what was coming for them on Wednesday if we did n’t get a deal , ” say Fain . “ That was checkmate . ”

Chuck Browning , UAW ’s vice chairwoman , called the tentative agreement a “ platter contract bridge ” and “ the most lucrative agreement per member since Walter Reuther was president . ”
“ This deal puts more money on the tabular array than the 2019 agreement , four times over , ” said Browning .
The probationary concord includes a general wage gain of 25 % over the life of the declaration , with Ford UAW workers see an contiguous 11 % earnings hike immediately upon confirmation .
