The U.S. Federal Trade Commission announced on Tuesday that it has cite a complaint against TikTok and its parent company ByteDance to the Department of Justice .   The authority was investigating the party over potential irreverence of the Children ’s Online Privacy Protection Act and was search into whether TikTok violate a law that prohibits “ unfair and deceptive ” line of work practice .

“ The probe uncovered reason to trust named defendant are violate or are about to violate the law and that a proceedings is in the public interest , so the Commission has voted to refer a complaint to the DOJ , according to the procedures outlined in the FTC Act , ” the agency said in a command .

TikTok write out apublic statementnoting that it has been working with the FTC for more than a year to turn to its concerns and that it is “ disappointed ” that the agency is pursuing litigation .

“ We powerfully disagree with the FTC ’s allegement , many of which come to to past events and practices that are factually inaccurate or have been call , ” TikTok ’s statement reads . “ We ’re proud of and remain deeply attached to the work we ’ve done to protect kid and we will continue to update and ameliorate our product . ”

The FTC notes that although it does n’t typically announce that it has referred a complaint , it “ determined that doing so here is in the public interest . ”

TikTok pay $ 5.7 million in2019 to steady down FTC allegationsthat it illegally collected personal selective information from children . The settlement marked the large civil penalization ever incur by the Commission in a kid ’s privateness case , according to the FTC .

The announcement come as TikTok is facing increase examination in the U.S.
