At theGoogle I / O 2024 developer conference on Tuesday , Google announced that it is build Gemini Nano , the smallest of its AI mannikin , directly into the Chrome background client , starting with Chrome 126 .

This , the society says , will enable developers to use the on - gimmick model to power their own AI feature . Google itself plans to use this raw potentiality to power features like the subsist “ aid me save ” tool from Workspace Lab in Gmail , for case .

The caller says it ’s the recent oeuvre on WebGPU and WASM support in Chrome that enable these models to run at a sensible velocity on a wide Seth of hardware .

In a briefing onward of Tuesday ’s announcement , Jon Dahlke , Google ’s music director of merchandise management for Chrome , noted that Google was in talks with other internet browser vendor to enable this — or a like feature of speech — in their internet browser , too .

What make more sense is to enable web web browser — and developer — to start the framework of their choice . Google would understandably opt to run Gemini for its applications , but these models are small-scale enough to leave developers to choose whichever one they want for their program .

Our vision to give you the most office AI models in Chrome to make billions of users without receive to occupy about straightaway technology , fine - tuning , capacity and cost . All you have to do is call a few high-pitched - level genus Apis – transform , caption , transcribe . This is a big shimmy for the web and we need to get it right . ”

For developers , Google is now also using the built - in Gemini Nano model to power some new features in the Chrome DevTools Console . Thanks to this , the Chrome dev tools can now explain errors and provide debugging solutions mightily in the cabinet .
