Google CEO Sundar Pichaiannouncedon Thursday that Prabhakar Raghavan , the administrator in charge of the company ’s search engine and ads merchandise , is leave his role . Longtime Google administrator Nick Fox will replace Raghavan , who will now take on the role of chief engineer .
“ Prabhakar has decided it ’s time to make a big bounce in his own calling , ” Pichai say in the announcement . “ After 12 yr leading squad across Google , he ’ll return to his figurer scientific discipline roots and take on the role of Chief Technologist , Google . In this role , he ’ll collaborator nearly with me and Google leads to provide technical direction and leaders and grow our culture of tech excellency . ”
Raghavan led the Gmail squad in establish Smart Reply and Smart Compose , which were the email religious service ’s first AI products . Since then , Raghavan has oversee the launching ofAI OverviewsandCircle to Search , along with AI features in Maps and Shopping , such as Immersive View and virtual try - on .
Pichai say Fox has “ been instrumental in shaping Google ’s AI mathematical product roadmap and collaborating close with Prabhakar and his leaders squad . ”
Fox has help launch product like Google Fi and RCS electronic messaging .
In addition to the change in part , Pichai announced that the Gemini app team run by Sissie Hsiao will get together Google DeepMind under Demis Hassabis .
The executive writes that bringing the two team together “ will improve feedback loops , enable fast deployment of our Modern example in the Gemini app , make our post - training work proceed more efficiently and build up on our outstanding product momentum . ”
