Around 300 London - based appendage of Google ’s AI - sharpen DeepMind squad are search to unionize with the Communication Workers Union , according toa Financial Times reportthat mention three hoi polloi involved with the unionisation effort .
These DeepMind employee are reportedly distressed about Google ’s conclusion to removea pledge not to expend AI for weapons or surveillancefrom its website . They ’re also concerned about the party ’s body of work with the Israeli military , let in a $ 1.2 billion cloud computing contract bridge that hasprompted protests elsewhere at Google .
One source told the FT that squad members feel “ gull , ” and correspondence reportedly show that at least five DeepMind staff phallus have chuck up the sponge citing these consequence . DeepMind has around 2,000 total staff fellow member in the United Kingdom .
A Google spokesperson told the FT that the company encourages “ constructive and opened dialogue with all of our employee . ”
A small group of around 200 employees of Google and its parent company Alphabet previouslyannounced that they were unionizing , though as a union representing just a petite piece of the total Google workforce , it lacked the ability to jointly bargain .
