Grammarly is laying off 230 employees worldwide as part of a “ business restructuring , ” the companyannouncedthis week . The layoffs are part of Grammarly ’s movement to march on its focus on “ the AI - enabled workplace of the future , ” the company say .

“ To get at today ’s decision , we took a look at our organizational design and the current skillsets of our team through the lens of our company scheme , ” Grammarly CEO Rahul Roy - Chowdhury articulate in a memo to employees . “ As we tone up our focal point toward drive the AI - enabled work and deepen our technical investments in AI , we will want a different intermixture of capableness and skillsets . We also need to redesign our establishment to improve the lineament and f number of collaboration — and that intend , among other things , restructuring roles and co - locating certain team . ”

Roy - Chowdhury went on to say that the layoffs are not a monetary value - cut measure , noting that Grammarly ’s financial position is “ strong . ” He says the layoffs touch on most Grammarly functions and geographies .

Impacted employee will receive a minimum of three months ’ basis salary , along with wellness insurance benefits as applicable to their locations .

The memo says Grammarly grew its squad from 200 to 1,000 employee over the past five years , and that in that clip , the company has meet changes in the industry and global environment , including the war in Ukraine and a “ newfangled age of AI . ” Roy - Chowdhury says these modification have challenge the company to be more “ strategic . ”

“ As for Grammarly ’s hereafter : We see massive opportunity as every individual and business begin to harness the power of AI , ” Roy - Chowdhury say . “ We ’ll build on this foundation to bring even more time value to our customers .   AI will fundamentally change the work for the better — and Grammarly will dally a direct character in driving that alteration . ”
