Lucid has reached an accord that will give owners of its luxury eV access to Tesla ’s web of superchargers — come the path of Ford , GM and the majority of automakers that trade electron volt in North America have taken in recent month .

Ford kick off the trendin May 2023when it announced its EV owner would soon have approach to about 12,000 Tesla chargers initially via an adapter ; Ford added that its next generation of EVs would be desegregate with Tesla ’s charge porthole call theNorth American Charging Standard(NACS ) starting in 2025.GM , Rivian , Honda , Mercedes , Hyundai , Kia , Toyota and most recentlySubarufollowed with their own announcements to adopt Tesla ’s charging standard .

Lucid was one of the last stay on holdouts . Like previous announcements , Lucid will get down by allow for proprietor of its EVs , which are built with the Combined Charging System ( CCS ) , with an adapter that will give it access to thousands of Tesla courser , bang as Superchargers . Lucid will integrate Tesla ’s NACS charge port into its EVs starting in 2025 .

“ adopt NACS is an important next step to provide our customers with expand accession to authentic and commodious charging solutions for their Lucid vehicles , ” said Peter Rawlinson , CEO and CTO at Lucid . “ We conceive that a coordinated charging criterion , back by the nationwide rollout of futurity - ready higher - electric potential charge stations , will be a critical stride in empowering American consumers to take on electrical vehicles . ”

Lucid ’s decision place access over quickness — at least for now . Lucid ’s luxury Air saloon have a 900 - V electric architecture , which has a gamy thermic efficiency and in turn , can lead to skillful reach and much faster charging .

Most electric vehicles — with the elision of the Audi E - Tron GT , Porsche Taycan , Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 — have a 400 - V architecture . For EVs with 800 - volt electric system of rules to reap the full benefits of immobile charging times , it needs right charging equipment that can take vantage of that computer architecture . Most public charger have 400 - volt systems and today ’s Tesla Superchargers are rated at about 500 volts . This mean that Lucid , and any other EV with 800 - volt charging systems , wo n’t be capable to charge as tight as they might with chargers design for them , asConsumer Reportsnoted last month .

For now , this is a minuscule point , consider how rarefied 800 - volt fast chargers are out in the world .
