During its developer tonic at theMeta Connect conference on Wednesday , the company pitched itsQuest mixed world platformto developers as the next big app storehouse . As technical school giant like Apple and Google are under tightened regulations over their app stock monopolies , Meta says it ’s working to make it easier for mobile developers to make the switching to Meta ’s Horizon OS .
“ Today , I ’m proud of to announce that if you’re able to build for Android , you’re able to progress for Meta Horizon OS in your favorite language , your best-loved IDE . And to get all of you in there , we have completed the open store transition we started in April , ” said Mark Rabkin , the VP at Meta lead Horizon OS and Quest XR devices .
For 2D apps , several feature — including resizing , theater , spacial audio , setting running game , multitasking , and handling all the hand and controller input — will also be available with Meta Horizon OS .
Meta itself tested its new technology by building new Facebook and Instagram apps for Horizon OS using conversant tools , like React Native . Other developer that have since test this scheme include Amazon ( for Prime Video and Amazon Music ) Twitch , and more .
Porting existing mobile apps into Horizon OS is also possible with new SDKs and other tools that Meta say will facilitate developers “ go quicker . ”
In part , these advancement were made in response to developer feedback , as the community quetch that building for Meta ’s political platform has been hard .

“ I ’d like to lead off with an excuse , ” said Meta ’s CTO , Andrew “ Boz ” Bosworth , in kick off the developer keynote . “ We have not made it easy to uprise for our platforms , and I require you to know that we sleep together that , and we ’re very deplorable .
