Michael Seibelannouncedlate Wednesday on X that after more than 12 year at the famed accelerator Y Combinator , he is transitioning to a “ partner emeritus ” role .
Y Combinator CEO Garry Tan shared the news individually in a companyblog spot , highlighting Seibel ’s recollective history with the outfit . Seibel first get together YC as a founding father , last through the program doubly — once with the streaming startup Justin . TV and afterward with the streaming app Socialcam . Seibel subsequently served as a group mate , managing director , and CEO of the YC gas .
Notably , Seibel had already stepped back into a less useable group pardner role recently . In a YC web log situation last year , he wrote that he was quick to “ give over my leadership responsibilities , ” with the transition becoming “ effective ” after the accelerator pedal ’s winter batch of startups nail the programme .
A 12 long time is a long land tenure for anyone , but Seibel ’s departure may have been set in motion as early as 2022 , when Tan was appointed president and chief operating officer . The movereportedlysurprised some YC employee — partly because Tan was running aseparateventure fund at the meter outside of YC , but also because they believed Seibel to be next in argumentation for the role .
We ’ve hand out to Seibel for comment . In the meantime , he shared in his X C. W. Post that after taking this coming summer to loosen up , he ’s eager to “ help governance well wait on its citizen . ” He added , “ Government was the passion of my youth , and I ’m worked up to reengage . ” Seibel sign off by give thanks Y Combinator founders Paul Graham and Jessica Livingston for “ changing my life . ”
The news comes just about two hebdomad before YC ’s leap tidy sum of father kick off their own turn of duty ; the program will run from April through June .
