Chris Young , Microsoft ’s heading of byplay development and its venture unit , resigned from his character on Wednesday , the fellowship said .

Young lead Microsoft ’s M12 venture investment trust , and was what ’s know as a named officer . Microsoft ’s other bring up officer let in CFO Amy Hood , top attorney and vice chair Brad Smith , headland of gross sales Judson Althoff , and chief operating officer and chairman Satya Nadella .

Because Young was a nominate officer , Microsoft was lawfully bind to publicly report his recompense , responsibilities , and exit . On Wednesday , Microsoft announced Young ’s surrender inan SEC filing .

When Microsoft filed its yearly proxy write up in October , it listed Young ’s acquisition as increasing M12 ’s “ engagements ” in areas like AI and data infrastructure , working with caller leadership in emerging tech , closing a strategical partnership , and helping the company make progress on its heavy sustainability goals . The companyalso saidthat Young “ champion variety and inclusion within the business maturation organization and across the company . ”

Young was formerly CEO of McAfee . He joined Microsoft in 2020 to replace the company ’s previous dealmaker , Peggy Johnson , who founded M12 . M12 was originally create by the Seattle technical school giant to keep tablet on emerging Silicon Valley tech and rising inauguration through distinctive venture investment . Under Young , it became more like an extension of Microsoft ’s business development team .

The SEC filing did not suggest why Young was leaving . It did say that he would be staying on as an employee until March to assist with the transition , although no longer in his former task . Young did not immediately reply to a request for comment .

“ We are deeply thankful for the substantial wallop Chris had at Microsoft over the past four year , ” a spokesperson told TechCrunch . “ During Chris ’ tenure , he led hundreds of strategical partnerships , fostered a culture of innovation , and laid the groundwork for our future growth . We support Chris ’ conclusion to pursue a new enterprise . ”
