U.S. money transport giant MoneyGram has confirmed that hackers stole its customers ’ personal selective information and transaction data during a cyberattack last calendar month .
The companysaid in a statement Mondaythat anunauthorizedthird party “ accessed and acquired ” client data during the cyberattack on September 20 . The cyberattack — the nature of which remains unknown — trip a workweek - long outagethat resulted in the party ’s website and app fall offline .
MoneyGram read it serves over 50 million multitude in more than 200 countries and soil each year .
In its statement Monday , MoneyGram said its investigation is in its “ early leg ” and is work to ascertain which consumer were affected by this subject . The company did not say how many customers might be affected . When reached , MoneyGram voice Sydney Schoolfield did not notice beyond the troupe ’s statement .
The stolen client data includes names , speech sound number , postal and email addresses , day of the month of birth , and national identification numbers . The data also includes a “ circumscribed number ” of Social Security numbers and government recognition document , such as gadget driver ’s licenses and other document that turn back personal information , like utility bills and bank building account numbers . MoneyGram said the types of steal data will change by somebody .
MoneyGram said that the stolen information also include transaction information , such as dates and amounts of transactions , and , “ for a limited identification number of consumer , criminal probe selective information ( such as fraud ) . ”
TechCrunch antecedently reported that MoneyGramhad subsequently notified U.K. data point tribute regulatorsof a datum falling out as need under U.K. jurisprudence .
