Jon Morehouse launched PowerTools in 2019 to help companies transport static sites and serverless apps to their swarm accounts on supplier like AWS and Azure . When a client asked him if they could use PowerTools to deploy their software system into one of their customer ’s cloud accounts , Morehouse was sceptical .
Morehouse told TechCrunch that after that question , he begin spill the beans to other SaaS founders about the conception of deploying their applications into customers ’ cloud . He discovered that this was something founders were being asked frequently from their customers . So he decide to pivot .
In 2021 , Morehouse launchedNuon , which is building a “ bestow your own cloud ” ( BYOC ) chopine . Nuon ’s tool are meant to help SaaS companies deploy their applications and software package to their customer ’ swarm accounts easily while still offering the same benefits a client pay back by using a vendor - host software package like turning on servers or run updates on the mathematical product .
“ It ’s like a hybrid of SaaS and ego - hosted , ” Morehouse , now CEO , suppose . “ It ’s deployed in the customer ’s account , so it ’s keep apart , it ’s deeply integrated , their information abide with them , but it has that SaaS experience , and it ’s manage by the marketer . ”
Morehouse added that while some SaaS company answer this ask from their customer by manually deploy their software into a company ’s swarm each time , that ’s expensive , clip - consume , and hard to scale . He impart that some companies , like larger enterprises , essentially require their software to be in their swarm . This means that companies that do n’t have the resources to offer this service just escape out on potential customers .
“ This is kind of the elephant in the way that I suppose a mint of founders stay up at dark about , ” he state . “ This is the thing that could kill their troupe , because if they ca n’t figure out how to power their most sensitive — and their biggest — drug user , then it ’s plot over . ”
Nuon looks to fill that void with its BYOC base weapons platform . The product was launched in November 2023 and has been operate on in stealth since . Now its emerging from stealth and declare that it raised $ 16.5 million in financial backing . Uncork Capital , M12 ( Microsoft ’s venture cap fund ) , Mantis VC , and Redpoint Ventures endow , among others . Morehouse said that he ab initio set out last summer to elicit a pretty pocket-size ejaculate round , but he decided to raise more after strong positivistic feedback from James Wu , a partner at M12 .

“ The reason that we were capable to go out , and decided to rear more than we had set out to , is because , when I talked to James [ Wu ] , it was percipient that he see this [ BYOC ] movement as big as SOC 2 and as big as the motility of cloud , ” Morehouse said .
Uncork Capital managing partner Andy McLoughlin assure TechCrunch he was introduced to Nuon ’s germ slew through an Uncork founder . When McLoughlin respond that he did n’t have metre to bet at the deal , the founder say him he ’d be an idiot if he did n’t .
McLoughlin said he ’s glad he look because he had seen this motivation from both his own past inauguration experience and from the enterprise companies he ’s work with . While he was doing due industry , he ping Quinn Slack , the atomic number 27 - founder and CEO of Sourcegraph ask if he could do a vibe assay with Morehouse . Slack was ab initio skeptical of Nuon ’s idea but after meeting , Slack cut a hindrance himself . M12 link up the round did n’t hurt , either .
“ Microsoft , they get to see everything , ” McLoughlin suppose . “ They have survey the market . A handful of players are doing something similar , and they consider Nuon was the right solution and the proper team and the correct timing . ”
Nuon does n’t have a net ton of challenger mighty now , and Morehouse said that the majority of companies do n’t have the resourcefulness to build each desegregation from lucre . This explains why a mint of Nuon ’s client are early - degree AI startup that are looking to apply Nuon ’s BYOC services as a way of life to stand out from their challenger and gain a market bound .
The company hopes to exit beta by the goal of the first quarter and is ramping up hiring . Morehouse said the society is also working on new ware like Nuon Action , which would tolerate companies to deploy their own computer code in a customer ’s swarm to avail with debugging and direction .
“ If you cerebrate about the last 17 years of software , everything has been build for SaaS , ” Morehouse said . “ We trust the next 17 geezerhood of software system is going to be build for bring - your - own cloud . It ’s going to be AI first . It ’s going to be design to take to the woods in the customer ’s cloud first . ”
