This week , we ’re take aim a spirit at a pitch deck from Rypplzz ( say “ wavelet ” ) , a spatial engineering inauguration that recentlyraised $ 3 million . Rypplzz uses wireless waves to provide location tracking since they are supposedly more accurate and gentle to act with than GPS . Venues like museums and sporting arenas can use its tech to help direct visitors through their quad or deliver selective information depending on their location .
I have to admit , this deck did n’t jell me alight , so I was a bit surprised by its winner . Still , it ’s worth exploring what could be improved here , so allow ’s comprehend in !
We ’re looking for more unique lurch decks to shoot down , so if you want to bow your own , here ’s how you may do that .
Slides in this deck
Reading Rypplzz ’ nine - slide deck of cards might impart you a bit surprised . First , it does n’t have much of the information you ’d bear to see in a deck used to raise $ 3 million . There ’s no lantern slide about the team , none about the problem it ’s tackling , no business example or pricing information , no free-enterprise analytic thinking , and no email to adjoin the chief operating officer . As you ’ll see below , the deck of cards fails to suffice many of the question an investor would ask . Still as I ’ve sound out before : Your deck is just one part of the fundraising puzzle .
The deck is also hefty , weighing a thumping 33 MB — an awful lot for nine slides . As a rule , a delivery deck of cards should never exceed 20 MB because many email servers do n’t wish bragging attachments .
Here are the slides in the deck , minus some client names that the company redact :
Three things I didn’t completely hate
I ’m not going to glaze this one : I honestly struggle to find three upright slide that had utilitarian information in an accessible form . This discussion section is ordinarily called “ Three things I sleep with , ” but that would not be completely reliable in this case .

Still , it was n’t all bad .
Exploring some use cases
There ’s a lot to struggle with on this slide : The text edition is almost unreadable on the messy background , and the shopping centre panel makes very little sense to me . Perhaps a voice - over could have helped , but slide deck should be capable to bear by themselves most of the clock time . You wo n’t always have the luxury of being able to talk a possible investor through your deck .
That tell , I did enjoy the two panel on the side here . paint a picture of how a customer might use the product is a great way to help investors envision the various ways the new technical school could be applied .
Product overview
Rypplzz ’ deck of cards does n’t have an explicit problem microscope slide , which would have been helpful for explicate the problem space the company sees itself work in . The upshot is that this product sloping trough has to do some heavy lifting and excuse the problem , root and Cartesian product all at once . Sure , some ship’s company can pull up that off effectively , but I ’m not sure that ’s the case here .
While this slide explain what the ware is and its capableness , it falls dead of being a comprehensive product slide . Investors often calculate for details like the product ’s unique features , its development stage , and how it is different from the competition . enhance a product slide with these detail can elevate the sales pitch and make it more compelling .
I do get it on the simplicity of this slide , though . It ’s short , crisp and product - forward . It does make me wonderwhythey did it so , however . It ’s great that the product can be useful for “ multiple diligence , ” for example , but that would have been a peachy opportunity to share some object lesson .
The ask and use of funds
I love the lucidness of the ask here : Raising $ 3 million — no nonsense , no beating about the bush .
Of of course , the “ purpose of cash in hand ” part of this slide get out quite a few thing to be desired . It ’s right smart too fuzzy :
In the respite of this teardown , we ’ll take a feel at three things Rypplzz could have improved or done differently , along with its full pitch pack of cards !
Three things that could be improved
If I were an investor search at this deck of cards , it would ’ve raised a whole heap of questions , a veritable subject area of flushed flag . Here are some of the ones that shine most bright :
How does it work, though?
When I got to this slide , I was confused if I was being trolled . Surely this couldn’tactuallybe a lantern slide from a successful sales pitch deck ?
It just does n’t make sentiency . Digital files in the air ? What does that mean ? What is the user experience here , and what is the user welfare ? Also , what does that list on the remaining mean ? Wearables ? Drones ? golem ? What are they doing ? Why and how ?
perhaps I ’m missing something major here , but all of this simply left me feeling like one giant , life - size shrug emoji . If you read what ’s go on here , please send me a mailing-card .
In the ending , I was so exasperate that I fed the swoop into ChatGPT to see if it could make sentiency of it . The resulting word soup confirmed that I was n’t going doolally : There ’s not enough meaning here to calculate out what the company is endeavor to do .
startup , do n’t be like this .
And what are you going to use it for?
After playground slide 3 , I was a bit miffed that I still had no idea what the company was planning to put into the reality . However , there are many dissimilar ways of slice a narrative , so I hope that reading how the inauguration envisioned its technology in use would make things well-defined .
heartfelt lector , it did not .
This is a corking example of a story that could have been assure in a more elegant means by using a simple narrative tool : “ Meet Sam . He is going to a football game secret plan . When he get there , he wonders where the concession stand is . However ! He is wearing a Rypplzz armband , which can help guide him to the near frigid Miller Lite . ”
Assuming that ’s what the production does . I still have absolutely no idea .
The company also say the product has a cluster of practical explanations , but it ’s all fuzzy here :
As a founder , it ’s your Book of Job to guarantee that likely investor can clearly and easy realize what you ’re doing and can envision a vast potential exit . Confusing the crap out of people is the wrong way to go about that .
Current GTM partners
Now we ’re getting somewhere ! adhesive friction ! Yesss !
Except . . .
It ’s substantive to simplify and streamline a glide to secure it conveys a ordered and singular message , but Slide 7 is overburdened with cognitive content and concepts , which leads to a lack of nidus .
The slide names some of its current customers , butit does n’t admit critical elements such as tax income trends or increment statistics . This omission makes it difficult to assess the company ’s traction : Are these paying client ? If so , are they on contract ? How valuable are those contracts ? What is the chance of those declaration acquire and acquire ?
The slide includes some numbers that appear to be concern to grocery size , but it ’s not alone clear what these numbers represent and how they were work out . It ’s crucial to provide context and excuse such figures so investors can meaningfully sympathize the marketplace ’s potential .
Still , I ’m most frustrated by the lintel : It name “ GTM ” ( go - to - market ) , but the slide has no sign of a go - to - market plan . This disagreement might lead one to be amiss the slide ’s intent and content . In fact , theslide seems to mash together a bunch of element that would have been more efficient if they were separated into distinct glide .
It would have been much better to create slides focused on specific aspect like traction , grocery size and go - to - marketplace strategy , each with a clear and targeted message . Yes , you ’ll terminate up with a few more slide , but I ’d rather have a big , light pack of cards than a series of heavy slides .
Overall , I ’d have sent Rypplzz back to the drawing circuit card and encouraged the team to put together a more accessible version that would explicate clearly what it was examine to action , for who , why and what the underlying technical school is . As it stands , this is possibly the tough deck of cards I ’ve seen , and that ’s state something . It baffles me beyond word of honor that the fellowship successfully raised a round .
