Rivian hasopeneda new charging station in Joshua Tree , California , that is open for other EV owner to use — a first for the company . It ’s part of a program to build out a much larger interoperable charge net across the U.S. , though the society is still very early on in that cognitive process .
The new station still apply the CCS charge plug that was the touchstone until automakers began take up Tesla ’s little , faster reading . Rivian says the company is sour to desegregate Tesla ’s North American Charging Standard technical school into future charging stations and will retrofit existing stations over time .
Rivian has been tailoring much of its so - call Adventure internet to have charging station in harder - to - reach places that are not service by charge networks from Tesla and others . Opening these stations to competitors will take into account other owners to venture a bit further with their EVs . But it ’s not a whole altruistic move . As Rivian notes in itspress release , opening its charging meshwork makes the ship’s company eligible for state and Union funding — which the company says it hopes to apply to make the web big .
