Samsung Medison , a medical twist unit of Samsung Electronics that specialise in developing diagnostic imagination devices , said on Wednesday it plans to acquireSonio , a Paris - base inauguration that makes AI - powered software for ultrasound workflow , forabout $ 92.7 million ( KRW 126 billion ) .
The French startup ’s AI assistant is aimed at help obstetricians and gynecologists with the evaluation and support of ultrasound exams . It has received regulatory clearance in the United States ( FDA 510(k ) ) for Sonio Detect , a production that utilize cryptic learning algorithm to improve the image quality of ultrasound scan in real time .
Samsung Medison said Sonio ’s software would aid it bring honest AI - drive imaging workflows to the market . Samsung Electronics , which owns a 68.45 % stake in the medical gadget unit , acquired Medison for $ 22 million in 2011 .
Samsung enjoin in a program line that following the acquisition , Sonio will remain an self-governing company and continue to produce commercially and offer products and service in France .
