SpaceX successfully launch four people into space on Friday , beginning a delegation that will give the International Space Station enough bunch members to allow for cosmonaut Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore to return to Earth after their nine - month stop .

The foreign mission , known as Crew-10 , will see SpaceX ’s Dragon space vehicle dock with the International Space Station ( ISS ) recent Saturday . The new astronauts will overlap with the subsist crew for a few Clarence Day before Williams and Wilmore ( along with two others ) bring back to our major planet . That could happen as before long as March 19 , weather permitting .

SpaceX crowd launch to the ISS have become everyday , but this missionary station has been heatedly anticipated because of how Williams and Wilmore come to the place in the first place — and because SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has blamed their prolonged stoppage on former Chief Executive Joe Biden .

The duo was part of the first crew launching of Boeing ’s Starliner spacecraft last June . The test mission was supposed to be a crucial milestone in Boeing ’s quest to contend with SpaceX for these types of crewed launch to the ISS .

Starliner was supposed to bob with the ISS for 10 days before returning Williams and Wilmore to Earth . But the ballistic capsule experienced leaks and thruster problem , which delay Starliner from docking with the ISS .

Starliner finally coupled with the station and the astronauts were capable to board . But Boeing and NASA spend week performing testing and analytic thinking before theydecided in Augustto bring Starliner back to Earth empty .

NASA and SpaceX agreed to bring the astronaut home on the next crewed mission to the ISS , Crew-9 . They break two astronauts off that flight to conciliate the return of Williams and Wilmore . A coming back flight was slated for February 2025 . They ultimately determine that bringing Williams and Wilmore home on that flight of steps would pull up stakes the ISS understaffed , according to NASA .
