Mathematician and scientist Stephen Wolfram grew up in a house where his female parent was a philosophy prof at Oxford University . As such , his younger ego did n’t want anything to do with the subject , but an old and perhaps wiser Wolfram sees value in thinking deeply about matter . Now he need to bring some of that recondite philosophical rigor to AI inquiry to help us well understand the issues we encounter as AI becomes more capable .
Wolfram was something of a child portent , publishing his first scientific paper at 15 and graduate from Caltech with a doctor’s degree at 20 .
