U.K. telecom giant TalkTalk has confirmed that it is enquire a data severance after a cyber-terrorist take to have stolen the personal information of meg of customers .
In a affirmation to TechCrunch , TalkTalk spokesperson Liz Holloway confirmed the company is investigate the data severance , but say the 18.8 million figure take by the hack is “ wholly inaccurate and very significantly overstated . ”
TechCrunch see that TalkTalk currently has approximately 2.4 million client .
“ As part of our regular certificate monitoring , given our ongoing direction on protecting customers ’ personal data point , we were made cognisant of unexpected access to , and abuse of , one of our third - political party suppliers ’ systems , ” Holloway severalise TechCrunch . “ Our Security Incident Response team are continuing to work with the supplier regarding this subject and protective containment steps were take immediately . ”
Holloway decline to name the third - political party supplier , but screenshots partake by b0nd suggest the data was stolen from CSG ’s Ascendon political platform , which TalkTalk uses for subscription direction .
In a statement sent to TechCrunch , CSG interpreter Kristine Østergaard tell the company learned that an “ international party gained wildcat access to a single supplier ’s data occupy on a CSG political platform ” on January 21 . However , she added that the CSG has “ no grounds ” that its systems were compromised or that CSG was the lawsuit of the TalkTalk breach .

TechCrunch understands that the personal details of a small subset of TalkTalk customers are stored in Ascendon . Holloway confirmed to TechCrunch that “ no billing or financial info was stored on this arrangement . ”
