A few month ago , United Airlinesannouncedits dispense with Starlink to bid in - flight net access code for its passengers . At the time , the airline business said it would start testing the new service in early 2025 and then extend it on rider escape later in the year . United has now accelerated this timeline a flake , with testing starting next month and the first passenger flight to provide Starlink , an Embraer E-175 regional K , taking off this spring .

When I babble out to United ’s chief client officer , Linda Jojo , she told me the company had an belligerent schedule for the retrofit , with the installing of the raw Starlink terminus schedule to take about two days while the aircraft is in theme ( with the option to rive the install over two night , too ) .

United now look to establish Starlink on its entire regional fleet by the end of the class . The first mainline plane ( think Boeing 737s and Airbus A320s ) will get Starlink before the conclusion of the year .

The promise here is that Starlink will basically make the in - escape Wi - Fi experience the same as on the ground , with enough bandwidth to allow anyone on the plane to stream live video , access productivity apps , and dally live game .

“ We have a lot planned for our MileagePlus members this year and adding Starlink servicing on as many planes as we can — as rapidly as we can — is at the centerfield of it all , ” said Richard Nunn , CEO of United ’s MileagePlus frequent flyer program . “ It ’s not only going to revolutionize the experience of flying United , but it ’s also going to unlock ton of new partnership and benefits for our members that otherwise would n’t be possible . ”

Once it ’s useable , Wi - Fi via Starlink will be free for all members of United ’s MileagePlus course of study . Fliers will also be able-bodied to connect with multiple devices under the same report .
