Y Combinator President Garry Tantook to the societal weapons platform Xon Tuesday to again express his displeasure at elected officials representing San Francisco , where the storied accelerator is base .
This time he was chew up California State Assembly fellow member Matt Haney , who stand for San Francisco , over a purport late - night electronic mail bill he authored .

Haney is what you might call Tan ’s “ favorite punching bag . ” Back in 2016 , Haney led the San Francisco Public Schools board when the district was discussingmoving algebra out of halfway school . The course waslater reinstated in 2024 . To say Tan was not a rooter of that early move is evident in several tweets , including inApril 2023,October 2022andJune 2021 .
Meanwhile , in 2022 , Haney was appointed to leave California ’s opioid citizens committee , to which Tantweeted , “ Politics as usual is put the incompetent supe who presided over 1000s of fentanyl deaths in his SF district in direction of the CA opioid commission . Matt Haney has done nothing to support recovery and treatment … ”
Haney defended his work combating the opioid crisis in aFebruary LinkedIn Emily Post . In it , he reference AB 1976 , a measure that he described “ would establish on existing requirement for California employers to have ‘ adequate first - aid textile ’ for workers . ” His goal is to make kit that include the life - save medicine Narcan available “ as a fire extinguisher . ”
What ’s caught Tan ’s wrath this meter is Haney ’s proposed bill , AB 2751 , that would enable employees “ the rightfield to unplug ” after tally - upon workings hour . Meaning they ’d have the legal right to ignore birdsong , emails , texts or content mail after that time , except in cases of emergency , and employers in trespass could be subject to fines , the San Francisco Standard reported .
Haney told the issue , “ If you ’re work a 9 - to-5 line of work , you should n’t be expected to be act 24/7 . That should be available to everyone , irrespective of the existence of smartphones . ”

It ’s worth point out that the bill is n’t as much to forbid masses from work farseeing hours if they opt to , as Tan incriminate , as to forbid companies from imposing an always - available expectation on workers . However , this approximation does tend contraryto the startup hustle culture , part of YC ’s man , which hero-worship dedication to body of work , particularly in the early years .
Tan ’s in vogue tweet finding error with a California lawgiver is not unique . Hewent on a rant in Januaryon X about seven San Francisco supervisory program that conduct a violent shade . He later apologized , explained that the tweet was mean to be an obvious book of facts to a popular rap Song dynasty and by and by erase it .
It did n’t end there , though . In February , three San Francisco supervisorsreceived jeopardise lettersto their homes that included a photo of Tan and the idiom , “ I wish a slow , painful expiry for you and your loved ones . ”
TechCrunch speak with San Francisco control panel executive program Aaron Peskin about the alphabetic character at that time , and Peskin say he did n’t think Tan was straightaway creditworthy for someone post the letter . However , with its threatening tone direct at a mortal , not just dissertate on a policy , Tan ’s tweet all the same did “ harm to democratic discussion , ” Peskin said .
Attempts to reach both Tan and Haney for gossip were not suffice at the clock time of publication . Y Combinator declined to comment .
